New Addition to Lakeland PAL

Rakeem Rutherford was born and raised in Morganton, NC. He comes to Lakeland after a year in South Florida as a Professional Scout for Athletes USA. Rakeem was a high school standout in football and basketball. He played collegiate football at Emory & Henry College. In his senior year, he was voted Team Captain and was an All-ODAC Free Safety. He earned his undergraduate degree in Sports Management in 2011 from Emory & Henry College (Va.), then went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Community and Organizational Leadership. As he worked on his Master’s degree, Rutherford was an E&H Graduate Assistant Football coach who also spent time as a Middle School Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for Football and Basketball in Damascus, Virginia. In 2013, he moved back to his hometown in NC and began working as the Recreation Supervisor of Mt. View Recreation facility where he implemented programs such as; Community Day, Indoor Soccer, NFL sponsored Flag Football, Basketball Development, Exercise Camps, Fun Day Camps, a fixed-income cooking class, Summer Reading and Math Programs, Yoga, Praise Dance, and Y.E.L.L (Youth Engaged in Leadership & Learning). Rakeem is married to Mercedez Rutherford and they have two daughters; Madelyn Rutherford (5) and Arya Rutherford (2).
